Expirence Overview

  • Co-designed and developed a custom internal application to help the HR department forecast and calculate employee compensation, ensuring pay equity and audit compliance for a government contractor.
  • Served as lead backend developer, architecting and implementing the system’s core logic and algorithms using Python, Express.js, PostgreSQL, and Docker.
  • Partnered with a teammate to create user-centered designs and prototypes in Figma, conducting usability testing with HR staff to validate workflows and optimize decision-making tools.
  • Translated complex compensation planning logic into a transparent and maintainable backend structure that supported job offers, raise scenarios, and career progression planning.
  • Used Vue.js and Nuxt.js to build intuitive front-end interfaces that reduced friction in planning tasks and improved HR efficiency.
  • Ensured regulatory and auditing requirements were met by designing a system that stored rationale and supporting data for every compensation decision.
  • Managed tasks in Jira, coordinated code via Bitbucket, and delivered the application on time and in alignment with HR’s strategic goals.

My Role

In collaboration with a co-worker, I helped design large portions of the application and conducted usability tests with future users to ensure ease of use and that requirements were well thought out and defined. Also, I was the lead backend developer, designing and implementing the architecture and algorithms that drove the data through the application.

Problem

Our HR team needed an application that helped them make decisions on how to pay employees within the company competitively and fairly. Because the company is a government contractor, every pay decision needs to have data and reasoning behind it to satisfy an audit. We set out to build an application that helped HR plan raises, create job offers, and support employees as they plan their careers.
