Expirence Overview
- Led the design and development of a secure visitor management application for a high-security organization, streamlining check-in/check-out processes and enhancing operational oversight.
- Coordinated with the project manager and internal stakeholders throughout the entire processes end-to-end.
- Participated in all planning and requirements meetings, translating complex workflows into functional design systems and intuitive user interfaces.
- Designed and prototyped the UI in Figma, conducting iterative usability testing on both prototypes and live builds to ensure clarity and minimize training needs.
- Built the frontend using Vue.js and Nuxt.js, and implemented backend logic in Express.js with a PostgreSQL database.
- Managed real-time user interactions with WebSockets, improving responsiveness for front-desk personnel and internal stakeholders.
- Configured and maintained Dockerized development and deployment environments, ensuring consistent releases across environments.
- Delivered a highly usable, security-conscious solution with minimal overhead, replacing a legacy system that had frequent usability failures.
- Collaborated across teams via Jira and Bitbucket, maintaining agile workflows and coordinating releases with deployment teams.
My Role
My role in this project was to be the lead designer and primary developer of the application. I was involved in all planning and requirement gathering meetings, created mockups of the application in Figma, conducted usability testing throughout the project on Figma prototypes and the development build of the app, wrote the majority of backend and frontend code, and ensured smooth release of the application when deployed.
Problem
When you work for a company where security is an extremely high priority, ensuring you know who, when, and why people are coming into your company buildings is critical. The solution the company had before this project was riddled with issues and confusion. We were asked to build an application that can easily track visitors of all types with minimal overhead and clear usability, so that minimal training is needed to perform the correct actions within the application.
